A Virtual Public Hearing for Infrastructure is a critical step to success. When FDOT introduced innovative traffic flow designs like the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) and Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI), educating drivers how to navigate the new designs was critical. Virtual Public Hearing
The purpose of the public hearing was for Florida DOT to provide the community with information about the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Interchange design. Due to social distancing restrictions Florida DOT decided to use a Virtual Public Involvement (VPI) website to engage with the public, which made the use of 3D visualization even more critical for clear and effective communication. Project Design features
- Reconfiguration of the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) in Fort Myers
- Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue
- Reduced Conflict U-Turn (R-Cut) Intersection
- Auxiliary lanes on I-75 between Colonial Boulevard and SR 82
- One emergency stopping site on NB off ramp of I-75 at SR 82
